raw spot from sit-ups

Aug 13 2011 Published by under Exercise Diary

At one point when I was in my early 30s, I did 1000 sit-ups a day. I recently completed a set of 100 and managed to get a raw spot on the lower back.

  • Before going to sleep at night, I put baby diaper rash ointment (with zinc oxide as the active ingredient) on the abrasions from situps. In a couple of days, the sores began to dry and were no longer painful when doing situps.

  • The zinc oxide ointment is a big help, but burns and rash from situps still are a problem. I’m just doing a 100 regular situps in my morning workout. Added to that are 100 crunches. Around noon and again at night, I’m doing 7 to 12 regular situps with a 15 lb. dumbell. This way, I’m continuing to exercise abdominal muscles without further irritating the skin.
