Plantar fasciitis still has me…

Plantar fasciitis still has me leery of running. So now I’m using exercise machines, the bicycle, and calisthenics to workout.

  • I’d been basing my exercise routine on 3, 6.6 mile runs per week. The winter’s snow and ice took that option away for some weeks (and months) early this year. Trying to resume the mileage all at once as soon as the worry of a slip and fall was past quickly resulted in injury. No more running anytime soon.

As x-rays of both of my knees show noticeable deterioration of cartilage, depending on running for fitness actually no longer makes much sense for me. I’m hoping that a crazy quilt of low-imapct aerobic exercise will add up to a functional equivalent of Long Slow Distance. As working out on a machine does require more concentration to maintain heart rate, the challenge is to avoid winding up with something analogous to garbage yardage.
